Understanding Your IRS Notice or Letter

Receiving a letter from the IRS can be intimidating, especially with the aggressive language that is sometimes used. The first rule is that you should never ignore IRS Correspondence. But, it's also important to remember that many notices are computer generated and may not necessarily be correct, especially now with COVID processing delays.

Consult your tax preparer, carefully review your correspondence and verify that any notice of balance due is valid before you pay more tax. Also, be vigilant for scams - the IRS will NEVER call or email you as an initial contact.
